Biodiversity Conservation

Home to rich and varied heritage of biodiversity, India has great diversity in flora and fauna across a wide spectrum of habitats from tropical rainforests to alpine vegetation and from temperate forests to coastal wetlands that spread over ten bio-geographic regions.

Our scientific research programmes promote effective management of terrestrial ecosystems and species at landscape scale to help enhance biodiversity and ecosystem services.

Climate Change & Sustainable Technologies

Climate Change and Sustainable solutions are interconnected. Earthwatch Institute India work with communities on climate change by encouraging them to use sustainable technologies which help in reducing their impact on forests.

Our scientific research programme focuses on adaptation to the impacts of climate change and mitigation of carbon emissions through enhanced efficiency in management of our natural resources.

Ecosystem Services – Forests and Agriculture

Livelihoods, particularly in rural are closely linked to the natural environment and forest lands. Forest Ecosystem provide valuable goods and services – clean water, food, timber and medicines etc. Agriculture is most important component of culture and economy and provides food and livelihood.

Our scientific research programme focus on issues concerning sustainable agriculture, ecosystem services and biodiversity conservation by engaging farmers in community based conservation programmes.

Urban Ecology – Freshwater Ecosystem and Urban Forests

Freshwater ecosystem such as ponds and lakes, streams, rivers, springs, provide water for drinking, sanitation, agriculture, transportation etc. It also creates habitats for a diverse range of flora and fauna.

Urban Forest flora studies help to study and learn about native ecosystem of cities and help mitigate and adapt to climate change.
