By partnering with Earthwatch, UPS aims to build an appreciation and understanding of the value of urban forests and strengthen UPS’s environmental stewardship and corporate sustainability initiatives. UPS has engaged employees and customers in hands on research through the Global Forestry Program, inspiring them to support climate awareness. Currently UPS is focused on how trees and other forms of urban greening can provide benefits to cities including improved air quality.

The UPS Global Forestry Program launched in 2011. Through this program, UPS leaders and their customers have participated in environmental education and forestry research in USA, Canada, UK, Poland, and Denmark. The program has provided a broad-based understanding of climate change, provided a platform for sharing best practice in sustainable business approaches, and engaged and inspired confident ambassadors who are passionate about their role in supporting climate awareness. Over the eight years of the program 213 employees and customers have participated. Learn more about the program here.
In 2019, UPS shifted its focus to Operation Healthy Air. In response to the growing need for sustainable cities, municipalities are investing in green infrastructure such as parks, trees, and bioswales. However, research is needed to understand how well these nature-based solutions are working. This program leverages the benefits of sensors to better understand where pollution hot spots occur and were urban greening efforts can provide a “cleaning” effect to reduce exposure to pollutants. UPS is supporting Operation Healthy Air in Boston, Massachusetts and Delhi, India.
